About This Item

London: J.M. Dent & Sons, 1920. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". None. A first edition of the final volume in Joseph Conrad's Lingard Trilogy This late novel by Joseph Conrad follows Captain Tom Lingard as he travels the Malayan archipelago. The novel is often grouped with Almayer's Folly, and An Outcast of the Islands. Although these two novels by Conrad were published over twenty years earlier, all three works share the same protagonist, and are all loosely based on Conrad's experiences as a mate on the Vidar. Ink inscription to recto of front endpaper reads, 'Rosamund Jay. 1920. From P.W.' In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards with some marginal wear to the extremities. A little bumped to the head and tail of the spine. Rear hinge starting, but firm. Some light offsetting to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis

Civil war rages between the native tribes of the Malay straits. Captain Tim Wingard sides with the Rajah Hassim. But as is the case with so much in the Far East, nothing is quite straightforward and events unfold by indirection.
