About This Item

Washington, DC: Government Printing Office. Very Good. 1862. 1st Edition. Blind Stamped Cloth. First edition bound in purple, but now faded to brown, blind stamped cloth with American eagle design Contains 10 folding Maps, 8vo (6" X 9 ") size, 167 pp followed by 10 maps. Includes large maps of the new American territories, Washington, New Mexico, Dakota, Wisconsin & Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa , Oregon, Kansas , Nebraska and finally California. Maps are in Very Good condition, a few with small, closed tears on a fold or to the outer edges. California has a 2 inch long closed tear at the bottom & a slightly smaller tear to the top edge seam but is otherwise about fine. All 10 maps are still securely bound as is the text report. Binding is VG but as stated, darkened to brown on both covers. Spine is also browned and faded with gold spine lettering rubbed . Owners name, W. J. Ford and "Washington DC" penciled on the front fly. Endpapers have some foxing, text slightly tanned but supple. A solid, clean copy of a scarce Government report with 10 historically important maps. .
