About This Item

Harrisburg: E. K. Meyers, State Printer, 1890. Second edition, revised and augmented. Illustrated with 100 plates after Audubon with all but the first in full color. (There were only 50 plates in the first edition). Compiled by Warren, Pennsylvania's State Ornithologist, just 2 years after the first edition was "exhausted" due to demand for the book in schools and by "agricultural societies in the state" (F. M. Chapman, "Notes and News," The Auk, July 1889). Rebound in small 4to (6.25 x 9.75") 3/4 black cloth with gilt-stamped spine and simulated marbled boards; 434 pages including appendices and index. Tape shadow to fore edge first blank which also shows tape along the inner hinge otherwise near fine.
