New York: Phoenix Press, 1938. Inspector Mayhew, with the help of a plaster effigy of a druid, traps the killer of the effigy's sculptress. Hitchen's first book in the scarce original jacket. Blue boards with bright red lettering are lightly bumped and rubbed, binding square and solid with the previous owner's bookplate on the front end paper. Jacket rubbed with chips and tears, including 1" chips to the lower front panel near the flap fold and the upper front flap. Remnants of an old edged jacket protector to the upper and lower edges of the jacket with external tape reinforcement to the spine and flap folds, in new Brodart.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good.
