Melbourne: Banks Society. 2007. Edited, with an Introduction and Commentary, by John Currey. 108pp, frontis portrait & 11 illustrations (3 coloured). Printed on Mohawk Superfine Soft White; stiff card covers with coloured dustwrapper, place ribbon. A very good clean copy. ISBN 0949586285 ***Fawkner was a boy when he arrived at the Derwent with David Collins' settlement party. His previously unpublished memoir was written late in his life, following a visit to Hobart to talk to the few remaining survivors of those early days. Based on memory (his own and others') and hearsay, it contains some errors of fact; nonetheless it is valuable record, written from the perspective of the free settler, and containing much information not found elsewhere. .
