The Jewish Publication Society of America, Philadelphia, 1962. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Rembrandt. foreword and acknowledgements by author, list of illustrations, notes, bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with black-and-white reproductions of numerous Rembrandt's works. Red coloured boards with gilt embossed titles to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Pink coloured tint to the top text edge. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Rembrandt, with orange, white and gray coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. In this book the author looks at the the great painter Rembrandt and his affection and acceptance of Dutch Jewry in his own time. He, Rembrandt, approached the Jews of his day with " ... friendly sentiments, dwelt in their midst, and painted their personalities and ways of life."  from the front bowled over panel blurb, and Rembrandt, held in high esteem all his life the Bible, and used the Jews he dwelt among as models for his biblical works, the first artist with courage to do so. Rubbing of the book edges and panels with a few marks to the panels. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages. A few foxing spots to the first few and last few pages of the book; with, original bookseller's rubber stamp to the top right hand corner of the front paste-down. A little chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. The dustwrapper edges are rubbed and a little creased with a piece missing from the top edge of the front panel.
