About This Item
Hague: Adriani Viac, 1652. First edition. 18th century full brown calf, red morocco spine label lettered in gilt. Very good. 189 pages. 12 x 7 cm. [A12-I11]. A response to John Milton's "Pro Populo Anglicano Defensio," published 1651 in which the author defends Charles II, and denounces Milton's attack. "Milton's Latin works when they are taken as a whole, their interest is considerable; and it is unfortunate - with a misfortune not likely now to be decreased - that few people know them first hand." [see: CHEL, Vol.VII, p.130]. Text slightly embrowned, spine head nicked.
