A lovely first impression of Charles Morgan's second series of essays relating to the modern world and its values. The first edition, first impression of this work. A series of essays representative of the search for related values in the confusion of modern life. Selected by Charles Morgan from his series 'Menander's Mirror', which the author contributed weekly to The Times Literary Supplement, a selection illustrative of the variety of topics and themes over artistic and social subjects.Following the first series of 1944. Including essays on Landor, Verlaine, Blunden and Robert Nichols, and on themes such as ideas at war, on Europe, and on the English scene. Featuring two longer essays on France and on the creative imagination. Complete with its unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only. The dust wrapper is unclipped, very smart with only minor shelf wear, faint spotting to the rear wrap, and minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine.
