Duell, Sloan & Pearce, New York, 1949. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. foreword by author and index. Map illustrated endpapers, showing a map of the continental United State and its states. Red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured stamped titles, within a black panel on the backstrip. American Folkways symbol stamped in black coloured ink on the front panel. Dark pink coloured tint to the top text block edge. Photographic dustwrapper, photograph taken by Ansel Adams, with black and pale yellow coloured titles to the front panel and gray and black coloured titles to the backstrip. A book about the states that have the giant redwood trees and great lava deposits on their borders – Southern Oregon and northern California. it's not only a book about the geography / geology of this area but also history and its natural history. An American Folkway Book. Softening with fading to the backstrip and rubbing to the book corners and to the lower book edges. Dust marks to the top textblock edge with browning and scattered foxing to the other textbook edges. Light age toning of the pages. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edge. Small closed tears to the top dustwrapper edge and some chips missing from the lower dustwrapper edges. There is a 1.5 " tear to the top left hand corner of the front panel.
