New York: Random House/ The Poetry Quartos, 1929. Poor. FIRST US EDITION. 4to, pp. [8]. Beige illustrated paper wrappers, lettered in black. Cream laid paper watermarked with 'R.H.' within decorative frame. Wrappers detached, with losses. Edges creased, else, clean. Poor. A fragmented copy of H.D.'s poem exploring the her relationship with, and desire for, Paul Robeson, who had starred in the POOL group's experimental feature film, Borderline (1930). One of 475 copies (515 with overrun). The Poetry Quartos was a set of 12 pamphlets (priced at $10 for the set), each containing a new poem by an American poet. The publication was conceived by Paul Johnston, a fine-press publisher from Connecticut. H.D.'s name was not included on the original list, but was submitted by Ezra Pound in his response to Johnston's request. Fellow poets included Geneviere Taggard, Louis Untermeyer, Robert Frost, Elinor Wylie and Conrad Aiken. Boughn A11a
