Bound in plum-colored cloth over boards with title and device in silver gilt on upper board. No prior owner ship marks. Jacket has a small chip at top of fore edge fold, some light rubs along joint folds, and other shallow edge wear.. Illustrated by Roy C. Nelson. A collection of 30 cocktail recipes contributed by noteworthy writers of the early 20th century. The title is a spoof on Stark Young's 1934 Civil War novel, "So Red the Rose." The drinks herein are named after the contributing authors' books, such as Ernest Hemingway's cocktail, "Death in the Afternoon," Rockwell Kent's "Salamina," Harriet Monroe's "Poets and Their Art," Theodore Dreiser's "American Tragedy," etc. Each cocktail recipe is accompanied by humorous drinking notes and a caricature of the contributing writer by Roy Nelson. <br /> <br /> Scarce in this condition with original dust jacket. <br /> <br /> Ref.
