HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents THE RECREATION OF MY IDLE HOURS, a VERY RARE and very large anthology of poems and quotations assembled in the early 20th Century by one of the pioneers of "self publishing," JOHN DONNAN. The Donnan family lived in and around Richmond, Virginia, and this volume was "privately printed by the compiler for distribution to my friends." 6 1/4" x 9 5/8", 557 pages (including an exhaustive 60 page series of cross reference indeces), no dust jacket (probably as issued). Overall condition VERY GOOD. Pages = Very good: penciled name and addy of owner, on first fep, penciled page number (336) on back reverse cover which refers to a love poem on said page which is check marked in pencil, light to moderate tanning, scratch across lower edges, else clear, tight, lightly rounded corners as issued, no additional marks. Cover (green cloth boards with stamped insignia front and gold gilt particulars front and spine) = Good Plus: long tear to left side of cloth on spine, chipping to top and bottom of spine, entire slightly loose from binding, else very strong particulars, strong color, square.
