Norwich, NY: J.F. Hubbard, 1866. First Edition. An early narrative of campaigning during the Civil War with the 114th New York Volunteers- Beecher was the regiment's assistant surgeon. The 114th fought extensively in Louisiana and Mississippi, particularly Port Hudson, and in Texas during the Red River Campaign, before being transferred to Virginia to participate in the 1864 Valley Campaign. The 114th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment were notable for their colorful Americanized version of the Zouave uniform worn in emulation of certain French light-infantry units. This particular copy is in the original cloth trade binding and is uncommon thus. Most copies have been rebound over the years. Small 8vo., embossed rede cloth, stamped in gilt; all edges gilt; 582 pages. Uncommon in the original trade binding. Illustrated.. Very Good (some general wear with gilt work still fairly bright, spine bit dull with binding tight; scattered foxing throughout text, pencil name).
