The Realm of the Nebulae by Edwin Hubble - 1936

Binding is slightly soiled and scuffed. Pages mildly yellowed with age. Owner's name in ink on FEP. Owner was a student at UC Berkeley and an accomplished physicist in later life. There is a dedication and signature on the FFEP, from noted astronomer, Dr. Dorothea Klumpke Roberts, to the student and owner, dated 1937. Hinge is tight. Two small yellowed tapings on half title page. Index at rear of book. Fourteen plates including frontispiece of the Great Spiral in Andromeda. Sixteen figures and 8 tables throughout. List of the Silliman Memorial Lectures published by Yale University Press after Index. Ephemera inside includes, 1) a 1954-55 Lecture Series Program at UC Berkeley by Professor Walter Baade of the Astronomy department, 2) A personal, typed list of lectures sponsored by the Lecture Committee of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific with notes in pencil on reverse, 3) Two copies of articles about Professor D.K. Roberts, and one about the later work of the book's owner, Leon Salamave. This is a rare First Edition of the title by the eminent Astronomer and Physicist, Edwin Hubble, graced with a signed and dated dedication by a leading astronomer in her own right, Dorothea Roberts.
