About This Item
Undated ..... but circa 1922: Oxford University Press OUP *** An extremely rare illustrated first edition to find with the surviving dustwrapper. *** Rare First Limited Edition Being only 1 of 30 copies (please see photos) although this and indeed all thirty copies are unnumbered. Folio size.14" x 11" inches An incredible fantasy fairy tale book. 95 pages with almost every page illustrated including many in colour with all plates by Job. A poignant legacy of Princess Marie who during her times spent in Paris and her coronation as queen wrote this stunning fairy tale of a princess and eagles. The book seems to be in overall sound condition. The binding is still very bright and clean. A little worn to the spine ends. The spine is also a little discoloured at the top. Corner tips are very mildly bumped. The book sits solid and square. Endpapers have some foxing. All of the interior pages are still remarkably clean with the odd blemish of sporadic foxing here and there. The binding is very secure but has a little bit of separation in the pages which might be expected with such a heavy book. The title page, the first page and pages 19 and 57 have hairline tears to the bottom edge near binding but this could be repaired with a little TLC as there is no loss to the paper. The dustwrapper has tears, creasing and some loss to all edges. There is more loss to top of spine and a large split at spine fold of back panel which extends about three quarters of the way up. There is also a hairline tear across spine in the middle. Overall rubbing, light discolouration and marking completes the picture. Even though it is rather fragile, the dustwrapper is still I think in fair condition. THE DUSTWRAPPER IS PROTECTED IN A REMOVABLE ARCHIVAL BOOKSLEEVE TO PRESERVE ITS CONDITION AND THIS HAS BEEN CAREFULLY REMOVED FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS. I have tried to show as much of the above points as possible in the photographs, but if you need more pictures let me know and I will send them. . First Edition. Good/Near Good. Illus. by JOB. FIRST EDITION.
