Worn copy in dark green cloth with gilt spine lettering and decoration, covers decorated in blind, eight full page tissue protected engravings including the frontis. Cover worn and rubbed with gilt spine printing faded but legible, chips and frays to corners and spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, small closed tears to outer edges of several page, chip to lower corners of two leaves affecting the bottom five lines of three of those pages, light to moderate foxing throughout, thin line of transparent stain to the far top edge of the first four leaves, no names or other markings. Written anonymously by a judge presiding in the Rio Grande district, a sensational account of early life in the Republic of Texas, including tales of Indians, slaves, daring escapes, torture, duels, murder and other crimes, as well as punishment (one plate shows the hanging of a man indentified as a bandit). .
