Rockefeller, sr. began the writings tha make up this book in 1909. Although excerpts have been published as well as abridged editions, this edition "is the first time the complete text and illustrations of the original articles have become available in book form" according to the foreword by his grandson Laurance S. Rockefeller. Published by the Sleepy Hollow Press and the Rockefeller Archive Center two closely held family operations most copies were intended for distribution to friends, family and employees. Certainly this copy was as the card addressed "To Members of the Rockefeller Family Staff", signed by brothers Laurance S. and David Rockefeller is laid-in. Dated Christmas 1983 it indicates that the book was a Christmas present that year. Random Reminiscences was "the only commercially published writing carrying (John D. Rockefeller's) name as author." according to Laurance Rockefeller's foreword. Scarce.
