The Dictionary of National Biography relates the story than on "His first visit to Greece in 1875, for which he absented himself during Trinity term and was severely reprimanded by the board of the college, led to his charming and popular Rambles and Studies in Greece " (The first edition was issued by Macmillan in 1876). As well as describing his travels in 19th.C. Greece in search of classical sites it includes a chapter on Medieval Greece. Illustrated with 30 interesting contemporary photographs by T.H.McAllister reproduced in photogravure by A.W.Elson & Co. (protected ) 535p. Plates, Fold-out map at rear. Hinges starting. Nice original decorative binding, green cloth with bright gilding, a little less bright on spine. (Identical except for imprint on title page to the 4th. edition first published in 1892 by John C.Winston) This is an ORIGINAL vointage copy of the book, not a reprint you have to wait for!.
