London: Smith, Elder and Co., 1864. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 264 pages, small stain on cover (not very noticeable) very slight edge wear. The author intended to travel by steamer up the Missouri to Fort Benton and the Montana gold fields however the boat broke down at St. Joseph and he changed his destination to Denver where he spent several months before returning home. Pingenot, The British author describes his trip in 1863 from St. Louis across Kansas and Nebraska to Fort Kearney, Julesburg, Denver and Central City. There are two different green cloth bindings, one has 1864 on the lower spine and the other has London and the publisher on the lower spine. This copy has the date.
