London, John Murray, 1880 1st. Hardback, 8.25 x 6 inches. Halfbound crushed dark blue morocco leather fine binding by “S. Kaufmann.” Marbled boards, raised banding and gilt lettering to spine. Marbled endpapers, top page edges gilt. In very good condition. Spine a little darkened, some rubbing/bump to bottom raised band on spine, and top front leading corner on board. Some minor foxing to blank prelims and some light foxing to title and frontis. Inside pages and plates all very clean, bright and tight throughout. Else a very good clean and tight copy. ix + 301pp. Illustrated with 23 B&W illustrations (6 full-page plate engravings) and vignettes within text. Drawn on Wood by A.H. Hallam Murray and Engraved by J.W. Whymper.
