About This Item
Madeira Park B.C., B.C. Coast Historical Society/Harbour Publishing, undated, trade paperback (11x 73/4"), 56 pp, first edition, first printing, Near Fine condition. Straight, tight and clean with no markings, a couple of small smudges to front cover. This issue is dedicated to the pieces of B.C. history that have been allowed to fade away and of which nearly no historical evidence remains. The editor speaks of "great spectral cedars with moss in the springboard notches, pilings like black fingers warty with barnacles in abandoned logging camp bays, sagging sentry box outhouses beside crushed cabins, abortive mineshafts wormholed into cliff faces, full of blind cave crickets, fallen totems facedown like drunk men in clammy aldergrove clearings by dead villages, forgotten fish canneries and whaling stations collapsing in the rain, slate quarries like huge flaking wounds where only weeds come now, a corroded Spanish anchor salvaged from 200 years of deep water, tombstones in the underbrush by sad Cape Scott...In this issue we visit some outposts of the past in search of vanishing legacies, both Indian and white." Profusely illustrated throughout with photographs, drawings and diagrams. Illustrated covers.
