About This Item

London: Heinemann, 1958. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. 8" by 5". Nevil Shute. A wonderful first edition copy of Nevil Shute's thriller novel, first published in 1958, in the original dust wrapper. First edition, first impression. In the original price-clipped dust wrapper. 'The Rainbow and the Rose' is a 1958 novel by Nevil Shute. It falls under the genre of aviation thriller, and follows the story of Jonnie Bascoe, a retired commercial and military pilot, mostly through the narration of Ronnie Clarke, a pilot on an Australian airline. The title is taken from 'The Treasure' by Rupert Brookes, which Shute quotes directly within the preface. Nevil Shute (1899-1960), also known as Nevil Shute Norway, was an English novelist and aeronautical engineer. One of his most well-known novels is 'A Town Like Alice', published in 1950 when Shute first moved to Australia. Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding, in the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Internally, excellent, with just a bit of bumping to the tail of spine. Paste downs are a bit age-toned, with prior owner's ink signature on recto of front endpaper. Dust wrapper is smart, with some fading to spine. Edge wear and chipping particularly to the extremities, spine, and joints. A few closed tears on joints and a bit of loss on extremities of wraps. Age-toning to margins of fly leaves. Amateur dust wrapper adhered to reverse of original dust wrapper, but can be professionally removed. Externally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and very clean throughout, with a bit of age-toning to margins. Very Good Indeed
