A nice copy. fine Before Stratford was known as Festival City, it was known as Railway Centre. Sons followed their Fathers and sometimes their Grandfathers. The two great railroads GTR and CNR were like a marriage but in June of 1958 a separation began and then finally in March 1964 the two separated, leaving the Railway Centre no longer existing. An interesting history well documented with text and photos. 1989

Very Good/Very Good. 176 pages b/w photos - The year 1856 signaled the arrival of the Grand Trunk Railway and the Buffalo and Lake Huron Line, beginning Stratford's long history as a major rail centre. In 1871 a locomotive repair shop came to town; it was expanded in 1889 and 1906. The Grand Trunk amalgamated with the Buffalo and Lake Huron Railway and in 1923 was taken over by the Canadian National Railway. The CNR was a significant contributor to the town's economy until the closure of the shops in 1964.
