About This Item
Chicago Railway Equipment Compan, 1911. Hardcover. Acceptable. in x in x in. Heavily rubbed and scuffed covers. No DJ. Binding is fine. All pages have finger page turning marks. Clearly this was a favorite of someone. Many pages with nicks or small tears to edges. Previous owner name in pencil on front free page: John Barlow Reid, Syracuse, NY 1911. He sketched perhaps a family on the front free page: PB (the cat), Mr., JBR, WAR, Pig on the right of way and then a train car with JBR written on it and 999 and and arrow from IT to what appears to be a person maybe driving the train car. I found this obit online and it seems to fit the timeline of the young boy who put his name in this book: JOHN BARLOW REID (1905- 2004). Born in Watertown, New York, he grew up in several towns in New York State, including Syracuse and Albany, and finally settled in Yonkers, where he met and married the former Margaret Brown. In 1959 they relocated to California and lived in Hillsborough. In 1971 he retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad as Senior VP and Treasurer.
