Maps. Figues. Tables. Illustrations. Bibliography. Military logistics, during the era of the use of draft animals, had significant constraints in terms of lengh, seasonal aspects, and challenges of moving large masses of troops and tons of materiel. The situation changed in the middle of the Nineteenth Century with the advent of the railroad and its integration into the military planning and logistics processes. The railroad increased enormously the geographical scale of military operations.
