Dark green top-stain. Frontispiece illustrations by Arthur Rackham: "The Gypsy Spell." Pages near fine, clean; no writing. Musical bars from the gypsy fiddle tunes throughout text. Scarce original dust wrapper in bright red, moderate edge wear, rub, discoloration; clipped, protected in new clear sleeve. Very good first edition in near very good original wrapper. Set in is rare ephemeral leaflet from John Murrary Publishing with critics' blurbs for "The Story of San Michele" by Axel Munthe. Walter Starkie, the author, was a professor of Spanish in the University of Dublin and a Fellow of Trinity College. This volume tells the tale of his adventures traveling solo through Hungary and Romania. Classic gem on travelling and fiddling with the gypsies. Contents include: detailed chapter titles with descriptive summaries, a bibliography on gypsy music and culture, etc. Includes detailed glossary and index.
