About This Item

New York: The New Press (1992), 1992. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. [7], viii-x, [5], 4-403, [1] pp. Quarter grey cloth over black paper boards with black lettering on the spine. Black endpapers and pastedowns. Price of $24.95 on front flap of jacket. Inscribed by Terkel on the title page in red marker. Terkel's study of race, with interviews between him and young and old people, Klan members, interracial couples, Emmet Till's mother, among others. The author notes that at this time period racial hostility was increasing, and such a study to understand why was necessary. A fascinating publication wholly pertinent to the twenty-first century reader. A bit of foxing to the top textblock; jacket has minor edge wear to its front panel and toning to its reverse.
