About This Item
Madison, WI: Quixote Press, 1972. Second Edition. Attractive portfolio of levy's work, which he produced during a one month stint in October, 1968 as the "Free University Poet-in-Residence" at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Two editions of the portfolio were assembled and produced by levy's friends and fellow poets, the first in 1969, and this edition in 1972, both containing a different series of collages and inserts in varying sizes. Together with The Buddhist Third Class Junkmail Oracle, an underground newspaper he produced, the Madison Poems and collages remains one of the best representations of his prowess as a visual artist. Uncommon. Verdant Press Checklist 46b (cf.Taylor & Horvath B-19). Original manila envelope (9.5" x 12.5"), with silkscreened illustration by T.L. Kryss on front cover, containing reproductions of 12 collages by levy, printed in colors on variously colored stock, measuring ca.8.5" x 11"; together with a magazine facsimile of New Student Vol.1, No.2 (Madison, WI., March 1934), with text overprinted by the publisher; with a reissue (in slightly different format) of levy's The Tibetan Stroboscope. Mild toning to wrappers on both publications, some trivial wear to extremities of a few collages, else very Near Fine. Envelope is edgeworn, with several splits, tears, and attendant creases; Very Good. Lacking the small insert 7 Concrete Poems.
