The original Latin books were published in 23 BC and 13 BC.The odes are written in an imitation of the short lyrical poems written by the original Greek poets, Sappho, Pindar, and Alcaeus. The poems cover a range of subjects, including religion, wine, patriotism, love, friendship, and morality.Horace was a Roman lyric poet and satirist, who worked under the emperor Augustus. He is best known for this collection.Sixteen pages of adverts to the rear. In a full calf binding. Externally, lacking the front board and front endpaper. Loss to the spine. Worn label to the tail of the spine, ink inscription to the tail of the spine. Spine label is worn and chipped. Leather to the rear joint is lifting. Minor bumping to the extremities.
