About This Item
London, UK Lutterworth Press, 1949. Hardcover First Edition [1949], so stated. First Edition [1949], so stated. Very Good+: shows just a touch of wear to the extremities, with a bit of crimping and faint buckle to the head of the backstrip; a tiny white spot at the lower front hinge, possibly paint or perhaps rubbing. The binding does not lean and is perfectly secure, but is slightly cocked; the text is clean. Not without flaw, but remains a lovely little copy: clean, sturdy, and quite presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 200 pages. Frontispiece plate and title vignette of a wading bird and a clump of reeds in a small pool Two figures; Fifteen chapter head vignettes and nine full-page drawings, all by the author, who wrote under a different pseudonym than his usual 'BB' for this uncommon title and attributed the illustrations to one "D.J. Watkins-Pitchford". Original powder-blue cloth-covered boards with silver titles at the backstrip and with a repeat of the title-leaf vignette image, also in silver, to the lower corner of the front board. Hardback: Lacks DJ.
