The first edition of this historical drama by Alfred Lord Tennyson in a beautiful decorative morocco binding. The first edition of this historical drama by famous English author Alfred Lord Tennyson, concerned with Queen Mary I of England. First impression with 'beheld' misspelt 'Behled' to p. 126.The story retells the history from Queen Mary's ascension to the throne to her death at only forty-two and the succession of her younger sister, Queen Elizabeth I. Celebrated for its depiction of Queen Mary's reign as well as the persecution of Protestants and the unrest of the sixteenth century. Complete with half title. Rebound in striking decorative full straight up grain morocco with decorative gilt to boards and spine, gilt to edges, renewed endpapers. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only, lightly rubbed to joints, minor mark to rear. Previous owner's gift inscription to recto front blank leaf, dated 1877. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting affecting occasional leaf. Very Good Indeed
