London: Henry Fisher at the Caxton Press, 1822. An omnium gatherum of brief articles and anecdotes by various contributors (some named), many of humorous or practical nature; ranging from the death of a cat to tests for the purity of soap, the extent of the Great Wall of China, shipwrecks, scams, crime, witches, Irish, riddles, poems, the English character, American Indian ways, Hindoo & Mohammedan practices, travel and natural history notices, 'Pugilism & Bull-baiting', the arctic, etcetera, etcetera.. There were three volumes in the 'Bee' series, each collecting 24 individual numbers; this is the second collection. Undated, circa 1822, based on dates mentioned in articles. Half brown calf over marbled boards, gilt titling. Heavily worn & rubbed, gilt dull; two-inch split in lower front hinge, inner hinge cracked, but binding still reasonably sound; partly effaced bookplate inside front, pencilled note dated 1865 on first white page; some foxing and tanning to many pages, a few pages stained or dog-eared. Text clean; viii, about 764 pages (9-1528 columns), index, at least one woodcut illustration of the Coronation Regalia of George IV.. First Edition. Quarter Leather. Fair. 5¾" by 8¾".
