A good run of this early journal on microscopy. Vol. 1 (Transactions, 1853, pp. 57-58) includes 'On the Application of Photography to the Representation of Microscopic Objects' by Joseph Delves, which is illustrated by an albumen print of photomicrographs, the first to appear in a British journal, prepared by J. Delves and Samuel Highley and illustrating the spiracle and tracheae of the silkworm and the proboscis of the fly. Vol. 1 (Quarterly Journal, 1853) also includes, 'On the Photographic Delineation of Microscopic Objects by Artificial Illumination', by George Shadbolt (pp. 165-170), and, 'On the Practical Application of Photography to the Illustration of Works on Microscopy, Natural History, Anatomy, &c.', by Samuel Highley (pp.178-194). Highley was the publisher of the journals, and arranged for the albumen print from Delves's negative to be made by Henneman..
