A beautiful edition of JM Barrie's comedy in four acts, adorned with coloured frontispiece as well as twenty-one further coloured plates by renowned illustrator Hugh Thomson. Collated, complete. JM Barrie's work written before the publication of 'Peter Pan,' following the tale of two sisters who start a school for genteel children during Napoleonic times. The play opened in New York in 1901, running for only a modestly successful 64 performances. It then opened in London the year after, and ran for a very successful 459 performances. The play was then revived numerous times until World War II. In the original publisher's full decorative cloth binding, gilt to boards. Externally with wear to extremities, lightly chipped with minor loss to head and tail of spine. Minor puncture marks to joints. Internally, firmly bound. Odd light spotting affecting odd leaf only, particularly first and last few; Pages otherwise generally very clean throughout. Good
