About This Item
1895. SAFFORD, Susan Darling. "QUAINT EPITAPHS". (Boston: Susan Darling Safford, printed by Alfred Mudge & Son, 1895). First edition. 45 pp. Slim 8vo., black and red cloth printed to upper board in silver, t.e.g. Ink gift inscription to ffep. A touch of sunning at spine, with fore-corners gently bumped. Internally clean but for offsetting to endpapers and, just a little bit, to two facing pages. Collected by Safford over a thirty-five year period and arranged geographically for publication, the epitaphs were found mostly in the New England area (excluding Rhode Island) and New York, with examples found "in the South" and "in foreign countries", and a section of uncollected epitaphs. A rare first edition of this title, in very good condition.
