About This Item

London: I. B. Tauris & Co. , 1987. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. 9" by 5.5". None . A scarce true first edition of Anne Lambton's study of modern day Persia, a lovely copy. A scarce copy of the true first UK edition of this unparalleled study of Persia's early contact with modern age, followed by a more common, but still scarce US edition of 1988. Professor Lambton outlines Western influence on =the Qajar state and traditional society, and the following process of social change and conflict resulting in the Constitutional Revolution of 1905-6 and the emergence of a modern Iranian nation state. Complete with the original unclipped dust wrapper. An excellent example.Printing error with the gilt titles to the spine of the volume upside down. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Printing error with the gilt titles to the spine of the volume upside down. Externally lovely, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The dust wrapper is unclipped and excellent with minor shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Fine
