New York: McLoughlin Bro's & Co, 1870. Paperback. Fair +. [8] p.: 7 chromolithographed illustrations; 15 cm. Yellow wrappers with black-and-red front wrapper illustration. Back wrapper has publisher's advertisement for 9 of the publisher's series of children's books. "Father's Series" -- at head of front wrapper. Gift inscription inside front wrapper, dated 1872. From the story by Charles Perrault. No date of publication; the publisher was listed as McLoughlin Brothers & Co., the form used on front and back wrapper, in the New York City city directory for 1870. This edition is not the same as the 27-cm. tall edition of Puss in Boots published by McLoughlin in 1888 with illustrations by Richard André. The illustrator of this edition is not identified. Very scarce. In Fair+ Condition: old sewn and clear-taped repair of spine; wrappers are creased with 1-cm. tears in edges; minor loss at corners; soiling and foxing throughout; small hole in front wrapper and first 2 leaves; small hole in last leaf; several small holes in back wrapper; complete.
