About This Item
London: Punch, 1858. Hardcover. Very Good-. 1st, an overall vg- copy, nicely rebound in purple leather; some pages have old paper-tape repairs. Hundreds of illustrations by John Leech, John Tenniel, The Trident, and others. In these days Punch made the most of its power to influence public opinion, and public policy; 'Punch's Essence of Parliament' ran weekly for years. In this volume, the unsigned picture of Derby eclipsing Palmerston (there was a famous solar eclipse at the time) is a classic.
