About This Item

Portland, OR: Collectors Press, 1998. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. First American edition (stated). First printing. Fine in fine dust jacket. Oversized hardcover in patterned cloth. 204 pp. Profusely illustrated throughout with color and black and white reproducitons of pulp magazine covers. Pulp fiction had its origins in the late 19th century when adventure stories reigned and continued through nearly six decades of slinking sleuths, galloping ghouls, gritty gals, and invincible warriors. They gave starts to such authors as Dahiell Hammett, Ray Bradbury, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. This lavish survey looks at detective story magazines, science fiction, westerns, romance tales, "spicy" stories, sports, war and aviation pulps and more.
