Abbott Lawrence Lowell’s signature is apparently on the half-title. The signature begins with Lowell’s customary lowercase "a" initial. Bound in a gift binding - half red morocco with red cloth boards. The spine is gilt in 6 compartments; the front cover contains the gilt stamped Harvard University shield and motto. A presentation book plate is located on the inside front cover – "Presented by the Harvard Club of Connecticut to Robert Alan Page of the Choate School 1925". The first edition of Lowell’s book appeared in 1913. Abbot Lawrence Lowell (1856-1943) was a U.S. educator and a legal scholar. He served as president of Harvard University from 1909-1933.

A faded early shelf number is hand printed on the fore-edge. The interior is generally clean with occasional brief marginalia in an early hand.
