About This Item

London: Henry Stevens, Son and Stiles, 39 Great Russell Street Over Against the South-West Corner of the British Museum , 1908. This is the second early edition of this well-known monograph (62pp + prefatory note), small sticker inside front cover from the reference library of Goodspeed's Bookshop. Binding intact, with some chipping, but relatively good shape for a 90+ year old soft-cover. Upper fore-edge gilt. The first edition of this had been printed by a private press, with only 20 copies made. THis 1908 second edition has been reproduced in facsimile. A scarce reference book on Ptolemy's geographies, in English. Stevens apparently had no initial inclination to publish these notes, but did so with the urging of his friends.. Second. Soft Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

About The Prime Meridian: Antique Maps & Books

The Prime Meridian: Antique Maps & Books is owned and operated by Joel & Deborah Kovarsky. We first opened in 1998, but have had a decades-old interest in old maps, books, and paper, stemming from a comparable long-standing interest in how knowledge is used. Our business is run via the internet. We do not run an open shop, however we do welcome visitors by appointment only. Before attempting a visit, please contact us. We are a specialty business, dealing in antiquarian maps and related books (atlases, history of cartography, selected reference books, etc.). Please feel free to contact us for specific inquiries.
