Freiburg im Breisgau and Leipzig: J.C.B. Mohr, 1893. Hardcover. Good. This work remains a standard reference for Greek cult practices and beliefs related to the soul. Octavo, two volumes in one: vi, [1], 711 p. Original burgundy cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Dust staining to the top edge and fore-edge, the spine, and the extremities of the rear board. The front joint is starting, with some bumping and wear to the corners and tips.
Sir James George Frazer's copy, with his signature to the title page. Associated with Trinity College most of his life, Frazer (1854-1941) is best known for The Golden Bough (1911-15), his study of ancient cults, rites, and myths, including their parallels in early Christianity. The signature of classicist J.C. Lawson appears below Frazer's, and another scholar's ownership inscription appears on the front pastedown.
