Decorative blue hardcover (3¾-inches wide x 5¼-inches high), gold/gilt lettering, all edges in gilt, frontispiece of the author with tissue overlay, 383 pages. THIS IS NOT A FACSIMILE OR PRINT-ON-DEMAND BOOK OR A MORE MODERN REPRINT. THIS IS THE ACTUAL 1850 COPY, AN EARLY PRINTING OF THE POPULAR PHILOSOPHICAL BOOK. Condition: Two corners showing, about ¾-inch split of covering at lower joint, light wear and chip to top/foot of spine (backstrip). Internally: Age toning. As expected for this book: Extensive old humidity and foxing stains throughout (early non acid-free paper breaks down over time and becomes acidic), but text of this 171-years-old plus antiquarian book is still very readable. A few chips, soiling, scratches from shelving to gilded edges. Free of writing and underlines in text and page tears. Else overall Fair condition of book. Here the author addresses numerous topics including Words of Wisdom, Anticipation, Compensation, Indirect Influences, Memory, Subjection, Humility, Pride, Hatred and Anger, Prayer, Discretion, Religion, Love, and Marriage, plus others insightful topics.
