A selection of pages and illustrations numbered through 563 with numerous full page illustrations and three pages of advertisements. Six page fold-out ledger for recording the names of subsribers bound at end. Ledger is hand-numbered in contemporary hand, but otherwise blank. Small flier regarding premium tipped in at end. Sample of red leather spine pasted inside rear cover and sample of cloth spine stamped on outside of rear cover. Bound in publisher's blue cloth with gilt decoration to front cover. Covers lightly soiled and worn. A first edition of the prospectus/sample of the revised edition of this work. A scarce salesman's sample for subsription book sales in Victorian America.
