About This Item
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1956. First edition, 1956. Dark blue cloth lettered in gilt, 145 pages, dustjacket. The book has minimal shelfwear, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with about a dozen of them having ink underlining, a few tiny ink notes on the rear free endpaper. The mylar protected dustjacket has some uneven fading and age-toning as well as a bit of edgewear, very tiny chip at the upper edge near the spine, no other chips or tears. The author grapples with such thorny issues as the merits of Liberal Arts programs; a comparison of professional vs. traditional academic subjects; the value of "progressive" education; whether the drive for effective mass education neglects the gifted and intellectual elite; lack of focus of social studies programs on depth and perspective in favor of discussion of superficial and glorified current events; does equal education mean mediocre education; much more. A clean and sound copy. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
