London: Printed and Sold by William Phillips..., 1825. FIRST EDITION. 12mo, 172 x 102 mms., pp. xiv, 208 [209 advert, 210 blank], entirely uncut, original boards; spine defective, with cords exposed and loss of paper covering the gatherings, edges worn, a modest copy with the bookplate of "R. Howell, Coventry" on the front paste-down end-paper. The physician Thomas Hancock (1783–1849) was born in in Lisburn, county Antrim, the son of Quaker parents, Jacob Hancock and his wife, Elizabeth, née Phelps and attended a Quaker school. Karl Magee in his ODNB entry says of this book that it "contains eye-witness accounts of the rebellion from a number of Irish Quakers and provides an interesting perspective on that conflict." The book was reprinted several times in both the UK and the USA.
