About This Item

1882 1st/1st Mark Twain The Prince and the Pauper Illustrated Literature RARE
"When I am king they shall not have bread and shelter only, but also teachings out of books, for a full belly is little worth where the mind is starved." ― Mark Twain, The Prince and the Pauper
A rare first American edition of Mark Twain's popular novel "The Prince and the Pauper". This humorous work follows the adventures of Tom Canty, a ragged street dweller who looks remarkably similar to Edward VI, son of King Henry VIII. The two eventually switch places in society after the prince convinces Canty to swap, so that he can experience the 'outside' world.
This 1st edition meets the expected first issue points. See below.
