About This Item

Chromolithographed title-page and 47, [1] printed pages -including final leaf of adverts. All edges gilt. 53 x 87 mm. Original glossy black paper covers (some edges and bottom of spine extremely lightly rubbed) with gilt titling on front and publisher's advert on back. "Three pence" in gilt capitals printed down the spine. Contains "Useful Commercial Information" such as "Persons exposing fire-works [sic] for sale , are liable to a penalty of £5" & "Money won at billiards cannot be recovered" & "Ginger beer cannot be sold on Sundays, during the hours Beer-houses are prohibited from being open" or "Card-playing is not allowed in Public-houses; the law against it is very strict". Also contains "Comparative Nutriment of Food" that indicate from Dr Beaumont's tables the hours and minutes taken to digest various types of food including stewed oysters, boiled sago and venison. #2 in Kent's Royal Series. Prince Albert predeceased this almanac by three years and Queen Victoria was 45 years old in 1864. All of this Kent Royal series are very uncommon but this title seems not to be recorded as existing elsewhere. Not in Bondy, Bromer, Joffe, Spielmann nor Welsh. Not found in WorldCat. Not seen in commerce. This is a rare almanac in miniature and in very good condition.

About Camden Lock Books, ABA, IOBA.

My online bookselling is Camden Lock books. I own Camden Lock Books & list books that are uncommon, in demand and may be hard to find.

My book expertise came with four years as Chairman of London P.B.F.A. , many more years of exhibiting at monthly London Rare Book Fairs & owning my own bookshops continuously since 1984.

Every book here was valued by the person who first bought it and will be just as prized by the person who buys it now from my shopping website.

I am an accredited professional & a full member of the ABA, ILAB and the IOBA, "Setting the standard. The books you want...from booksellers you can trust".

You can meet me on my stand at Firsts 2024, London's Rare Book Fair, at the Saatchi Gallery, London SW3 4RY, 16-19 May 2024.
I also am joint owner of Burley Fisher Books , an independent bookshop offering new and secondhand books.
