This draft was from March 1980. Printed by Scripts Ltd. in London. The film was released in 1981 and starred Sir Ian McKellen as D.H. Lawrence, Janet Suzman as Frieda, Ava Gardner and Sir John Gielgud. Directed by Christopher Miles.

Description:
London: Milesian Film Productions, March 1980. Original 181 page third draft shooting script bradbound in red studio wrappers. The film was released in 1981 and starred Sir Ian McKellen as D.H. Lawrence, Janet Suzman as Frieda, Ava Gardner as Mabel Dodge Luhan and Sir John Gielgud. Directed by Christopher Miles. This script contains all the scenes that were shot and later deleted. In 1985, the film was significantly revised. The two main reasons for re-cutting were that director Miles had been aware that although the film had fairly well received, that at 125 minutes it needed shortening, and there were also complaints about the Shepperton Studios soundtrack, which needed re- mixing. The fact that scenes in the film actually happened in reality, such as Lawrence meeting a film star on his boat to Capri, or the Zapotec prophesies on his health at the temple of Mitla, were a part of Lawrence’s story, their inclusion destroyed the film’s emotional narrative drive.
