London, William Heinemann Ltd. 1940 1st edition. Hardback, 7.5 x 5 inches. Bound in dark cream cloth, with maroon lettering to spine and Heinemann logo to rear corner. Light brown endpapers. In very good condition. Corners slightly bumped, some rubbing to edges and corners, lettering on spine slightly rubbed. Inside pages a little tanned, front endpaper lightly marked, a few top corners very slightly creased. Else inside pages all clean and tight throughout. 280pp. The story of a Roman Catholic priest in the state of Tabasco in Mexico during the 1930s, a time when the Mexican government, strove to suppress the Catholic Church.

Synopsis

Graham Greene (1904–1991) worked as a journalist and critic, and was later employed by the foreign office. His many books include The Third Man , The Comedians and Travels with My Aunt . He is the subject of an acclaimed three-volume biography by Norman Sherry.
